MIAMI -- At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday, a male suspect, Gary Timmie Collins, 63, of Miami, was shot and killed by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper after fleeing a driver's license checkpoint near Highway 69 in Miami.
The suspect ran the driver's license checkpoint, OHP Public Affairs Officer Lt. John Vincent said. He pulled up there, and for whatever reason, the individual left the scene and the trooper pursued him for six blocks.
Collins, who was driving, was shot by an OHP trooper, whose name has not yet been released, after Collins exited his vehicle near H Street NW and 20th Street in the northern area of Miami.
The individual pulled over and stepped out with a firearm," Vincent said. "The trooper felt that his life was in danger and he shot the suspect."
Collins died at the scene.
