They need this for, LOL WAIT FOR IT, HOLD ON, THEY need it to "apprehend illegals and child porn".

They'd be better off tracking the plates on The Beltway. No one violates more American laws than those people.

That would be racist! We are the only country where foreigners can come break in, demand health care, and get several monthly checks under several identities. The police and the courts will just let you walk away from some crimes because it's just so darn hard to prosecute.

I will tell you the County's drug interdiction unit uses them. The plates get scanned and will be looked up to see if DHS, customs etc did. If so, it's probably a righteous stop. Example, plates scanned at Nogales crossing, Arizona, and 2 days later here...
