I moved my 12x36 lathe twice with a cherry picker and a 2" nylon lifting strap. If you use a strap make sure you route it between the lathe ways casting and the lead screw / feed rod, etc. Don't want to bend those.

Thanks for the offers guys. I ended up just rigging it and pulling it out with an engine hoist. It took about an hour or a little more, so it wasn't as bad as I thought.

hind sight is 20/20 but a trailer is much lower/safer to unload

if you use a cherry picker .. go with a 3 ton model .. much higher safety margin.
