Coyote 101 in OK..........

In OK double spring traps have to be off set......meaning the jaws can completely close. Buy traps that are already off set, or buy the ones in your link and and wrap a piece of #9 wire around one jaw, or weld a a "dot" on one jaw.

I'd use a #3 or #4 if possible, those #2's will work, but since they're only two coiled, they would really be put to the test.......four coiled traps aren't legal in OK per the regs........some GW's will let you get away with it, some won't.

Dying is to take the shine off, and the dye won't adhere to the trap without a little rust on them. Wax helps with scent. Some dye and wax, some just wax, some just dye them, I just dye them.

Coyotes hunt with their nose, when using lures, use just enough on the tip of a qtip that you can barely see that it's on there. For urine, fox urine has produced best for me, as well as other coyote trappers I know over here. Your human scent or getting lure on your trap is what will screw up 75% of your sets. I usually use knee pad to kneel on, and gloves of some type when making the set.......IMO they don't have to be rubber. When your set is finished, and it's time to apply lure, bait, urine..........don't use the same gloves that you made your set with. You'll get those smells on your traps, and the coyotes and coons with dig your traps up. The other 25% of not catching a coyote is trap placement at the set in relation to your scent post or trench or not bedding the trap properly.......or your traps get plugged with coons, skunks and opossums. :)

It's important for coyotes trapping that clean traps stay in a container with clean traps only............and that your lures, bait, and urines stay in a container by themselves.

Youtube or go to trapperman.com and search flat sets, post sets, blind sets and trench sets for coyotes. If you ever find yourself on this side of the state, I'll be more than happy to show you a set or two.

Coyotes are a little more involved than catching a mouse. :) They get trap shy in a hurry if something goes wrong at the set. Baits should be used mostly right now. Lures and urine as November/December/January rolls around.

Read the OK trapping regs closely several times, it's really easy to miss things in there.

That is correct, modify so that closed jaws have small gap.

#4 with offset jaws.

#3 with offset jaws.

Use GOOD anchors. Coyotes will bounce and bounce trying to pull trap free.

This is what I'd buy, in order of preference.

The same traps above are also available non offset if you want to do that yourself.
Dukes all right if there's no other choice................ they don't want to keep consistent pan tension from my experiences with them and they've been known to come apart on occasion at the swivels with a feistier than usual coyote.
