1911 deep cleaning...

here's a series of pic's showing how to deep clean your 1911.
National Match Gold Cup Series 80 is shown.

pic's start after 1911 is completely disassembled down to the last spring and pin. will go back and do disassembly pic's later if anyone is interested.

disclaimer: please note this is how I cleaned my 1911. you alone are responsible for what you do to your gun. if in doubt take it to a competent gunsmith. wheewwww... glad that's out of the way.

1911 totally disassembled

spray down everything with Simple Green

carefully scrub each piece to remove all caked on grease

carefully wipe off each piece, inspecting for missed caked on grease

lay out clean parts on paper towels

drench in Breakfree which gives a good protective coating

Why did you post pictures of this? You just made me relive my experience from last month. *shiver* You should have seen the sludge in and around the extractor/firing pin on mine.

And yes, I came very close to ka-bobbing my eye with the firing pin. Once taking it out, and again trying to put it back in!
