Lees microband bullets seems like an easy way to get into casting. using liquid alox. I have a supply of lead alloy not quit as hard as wheel weights but close.

How do standard molds work with liquid alox if I have go that route

I plan on starting with 158 gr 38's standard pressure.
then move on to 45 auto & colt standart pressure

Maybe 9mm & 40's if all goes well. I do not plan on pushing these past 950-1000fps.

Any one use these, I will use mostly for plinking, my kid is burning up all the ammo:naughty:

All thoughts & comments appreciated.

They 45 colt & 38's will also be used in a lever gun.

Don't know how they work in a rifle, but in my 4" and less wheel guns, the SWC .38s I've been casting using the Lee TL molds works well. Accurate enough for plinking, and very little leading when kept slow. I'm running 3.0 grns Bullseye under 150gr bullets.

I haven't tried pushing them much faster, as I like the low recoil for plinking. I'm also using a nearly pure lead alloy. Very soft.

Economical solution.

The tumble lube design was developed to take advantage of the Alux lube lee created. I'm a big fan of the lee tumble lube for plinking rounds. Like NK I run a slow load for plinking. As a matter of fact my daughter was introduced to this round saturday and her response was "Hey that's pretty easy shooting!"

Give them a try. I think you'll like it.

lead bullets are cheap in bulk... aprox. $75 per 1,000 for .38

is it actually worth going to the trouble of smelting lead? complete with lead fumes....

$75 buys a lot of powder and primers.
I always cast outdoors. Haven't had any problem with the fumes.
There are dangers associated with all of the shooting activities.

It's all about stretching your shooting dollars.
And as many have found a rather enjoyable hobby.

During times when ammo and components are hard to find a person who has learned how to cast bullets and reload ammo keeps shooting at thier normal rate. Others have to ration thier hobby.

So for me it's worth it.
You mileage may vary.

good point... already have all the smelting equipment
wouldn't mind getting a few sets of bullet molds, just in case.
one never knows what the future will bring.

one can re-use brass, but primers has to come from mfg.
an old flintlock would take care of that too...
