Currently = Century Bulgarian AK-74 $350-$400
5.45 x 39, 1080 round case for $150
Magazines $12-$20 a piece

Classically= Entry level AKM style rifle $400-$500
7.62 x 39, ammo prices all over the place
Magazines $10-$20 a piece

Domestically=Entry level AR-15 style rifle $650-$800
.223, generally $250-$400 per 1000.
Good domestic magazines $15-$25 a piece

Those are the most common magazine fed military carbines.

The best "ASSAULT RIFLE" is likely a "SELECT FIRE" AR of some sort. Good general use round. Ammo, mags, and parts should be pretty easy to get. I have no real world experience, so this is only my opion regarding what make a good "ASSAULT RIFLE"...

"Assault rifle" - it's a rifle that you can assault with.

Mosin Nagant - you can kill like 500 nazi zombies for under $200.
Rifle - $100
Ammo for the rest of your life - $100
No need for magazine

Seriously though - just join Army - they'll issue one for FREE!!!

As far as AR goes - selecting "fire" or "not fire" is not really "select fire".

P.S. I guess you can find a pre-ban - but there is no "$ common denominator" there.

Love how everyone likes to nitpick on the wording.

Anyone consider quotes were used around assault rifle because he couldnt think of a better term. I dont consider AKs black rifles, so he couldnt really use that.

To be tacticool you need to load up on every magpul item, so a bare stock AK isnt exaclty tacticool.

Maybe calling them Semi Auto rifles with military equivalents? Would that have kept some of you on track?

Noober, AK/surplus ammo.

So touchy McCracker... lol... The term assault rifle is missused by those that would take our guns from us and applies to a pretty specific group of weapons. I happen to like Magpul stuff and am current very ATAS, you know... good to go.
