For in the home or office I think it would be fine and wouldn't mess up the gun at all. Would worry that in a vehicle or anything it could jar loose or mess up the finish of the gun wiggling on the magnet as the vehicle is moving.
I wonder how many 1911 mags will fit properly to that thing.

I've been using a holster with a magnetic clip for about 3 weeks and haven't seen any adverse effect.
Yeah but that thing is a way bigger magnet; it would magnetize your gun.
