Got to take some ballistic measurements of my 10mm G40 today. :D

I worked up two loads. I am only reporting my maximum tested loads. I safely worked up in small increments and checked for signs of excessive pressure signs after each shot.

1. 180 grain Speer Total Metal Jacket
14.5 grains aa#9 (5shots)
max: 1339
min: 1313
average: 1326
sd: 12.2

second set of 5 shots with 14.5 grains aa#9
max: 1337
min: 1283
average: 1314
sd: 22.7

2. 155 grain Hornady XTP
9.9 grains Power Pistol (5 shots)
max: 1441
min: 1413
average: 1424
sd: 14.7

(5 shots)
max: 1424
min: 1373
average: 1410
sd: 21.1

The 155 grain load shot like butter. It not as hot as the underwood 155 XTP's @1500fps, but its not far off!
The G40 has a 6inch barrel, no idea at what barrel length the underwood ammo is tested at (probably 5 inch).
I saw no warning signs so i may push this one a little bit more, although the Hornady reloading manual lists 10 grains of PP as the max load.

I think I will leave the 180 gain load as is, although the max load in the hornady manual is 14.9 grains.

Either would make for a good companion in the woods:o

Every firearm is different but I've always been able to exceeded published load data safely. Both your loads would be good to go but if it were me, I would push the envelope a little more. Years ago I routinely knocked on the door of 2,000fps in a 357 GP 100 shooting 110gr bullets with 2400 powder. The muzzle blast/pressure wave was significant.

I didn't see any problems with the loads i tested, so i may well try to push the envelope a little further.
The 180 grain load was getting pretty snappy, I probably wont push it much further, for comfort's sake.
The 155 on the other hand was shooting soft, felt like a .40.

NOOOOOO the .40 has a reputation as a "snappy" round. lol..
Compared to a full power 10mm I'm sure it does feel soft.

I could see .40 being snappy in a small gun, but every gun I've shot that was designed to be a 9/40 gun, .40 seems to be "smoother" than 9mm. Whatever.

@Hunter'sWorld, thanks for posting this. I love the idea of the 10mm, and specifically the G40. So it's cool to see the results.

What Chrono are you using?

The G40 = Glockzilla. The weight helps tame the 10mm a bit.

I was using a Magnetospeed V3. It was the first time I used it for pistols. Worked well on the G40, but was having some difficulties with the G29 due to it's short rail.

Awesome. I just got my 40 MOS and want to reload for it. Are you like adding single stage or progressive?

I love the G40. It's my favorite handgun at this time
Im not entirely sure what you are asking, but I loaded on a single stage.

Your comment got me thiinking about the variation in my loads.

Do the sd values seem high, average, or low?

^^^ I agree. The .40s I have are very smooth shooting and I prefer them over 9s. Of course I also find 10mm recoil to be very manageable, if not a bit less than a .45.
