I have an 86 model Johnson that idles good and will take off like it should for about 10 seconds and then bog down. It doesn’t die, it just won’t run throttled up .If I kill it and restart it, the same thing, runs for a few seconds and bogs down. Any ideas?

Some systems have a filter inside the tank. Pull the tank fitting and check, or (for the redneck approach) just remove the fuel cap and blow air into the line going back to the tank.

For the latter, don't be smoking or have any open flames...

If you think something in the carb is clogged, try Berryman's B-12 Chemtool. It cuts gum and varnish really well, and runs just like gasoline.

I used the liquid (non-aerosol) for startup on vehicle overhauls and carb kits back in the day (I'd fill the carbs through a vent hole).
