Do not assume the gun with a tighter choke will group your shots tighter.
I learned this years ago patterning some shotguns i have.
The gun that shot the tightest patterns was a full choke and was not the longest barrel.

There is a lot of differences in chamber shapes in a shotgun and a longer gradual taper into the barrel may result in a tighter shooting gun.
The absolute tightest shotgun i ever shot was Homemade muzzleloader rifle shotgun.

Some 1:36 twist 50 cal that stuck a bullet in the tube and we drilled it out and made a smooth bore from it and hacked the barrel short.
It shoots tighter than any 12 gauge I have.
Pattern what you plan to shoot just so you know what gives.

You probably do that anyway.

I agree with the suggestion to use slugs. Buckshot can be decisive at close range, usually less than 40 yds- slugs even in a plain smoothbore are effective out to 75 or more if your gun throws them straight. It can be hard to tell 40 yds from 50 on the spur of the moment- with buckshot thats thr diff between a good kill and a wound. A slug is also much more likely to leave a blood trail. When its needed.

Buckshot at further range does NOT work. My first time out I was putting in work on a piggie with my 590 and all it did was kept knocking him around...nothing penetrated. I never used my shotgun again.
