I now wonder if these model 8s are all misstamps. That would explain why some are bolt and others are semi-auto. The 1st digit of all of the comparable models I've found is an 8.

Well, it appears they do exist, but I cannot find anything about them.
Looks to be a single shot 22 maybe?
Perhaps a very short production run?
Perhaps quickly renamed to a different model?

Hello , i'm Steve , i have a Stevens model 8 , yes a model 8 !! unable to find any info on it...looked in some very old Shooters Bibles , Nada....it is a "Gill Gun"....


Could you post some pictures? Detailing the action and markings if possible. I'll see if I can find anything if the books I have.

it's not a single shot , i loaded the clip & fired it , all worked properly & very accurate.....hope i can put some pics.....barrel shows particles of oxidation , like sitting in wet basement.....

I believe you have a misstamped Model 85. I'm betting the "5" fell off the stamp machine and a few made it out the door before it was noticed. Misstampings are not unheard of.

I have a Stevens 85 I referred to. Yours is the same font, text angle, and the same markings as my 85.
It even has the same overall appearance.

Stevens Model 85 would be the same as the Savage model 7 btw.
