The views of the Moreno Valley were breathtaking above 10,000 feet. Looking out from a point in the aspens we could see the Angel Fire ski slopes. At one point during our trip above 10,000' we spotted a group of Merriam toms in an aspen glade. We also explored several abandon gold mines and mining shacks that dotted the mountain side. Mining equipment was scattered around some of the old mines that were left by the miners when the gold ran out. The gold rush peaked in this area around the 1870's and finally played out in 1930. To walk where history was made and to see common items laying around was eerie as if frozen in time. I will post some pictures soon.
