Hey what ya got growing on boys and girls ? If you still need seeds Shawnee feed and seed has the bulk packs for a very fair price. 177 & hardesty . You get a LOT more bang for your buck then the paper seed packs you find or order. Of course most of them are the common staples. I just got 10 types of maters seeded and 3 types of peppers started today.
Fall 2021 started, 2022 harvest so we can get ready for the 2022 plantings. May your 2022 be a blooming good time and produce like rabbits.

I think that I've read that you really have to saturate the fertilizer before hand. I also saw an article where they hollowed out a portion of the straw and used potting soil/compost to start the plants out. Guess that I'll find out!

I put a small amount of potting soil in the hay bale. Just didn't follow up with the fertilizer. I'm thinking a slow release may be the way to go?
Think If doing it again, I'd try one bale with liquid fertilizer and the other with slow release pellets to find out what works.

Makes very good sense. I will probably do it this way by planting the exact same stuff in the differently prepped bales.

Been waiting to see this thread pop up. Do you guys start your stuff indoors and then take outside once the last frost hits? My son and I just have a small garden in the backyard but he’s anxious to get things going again

About the only things I used to start early would be onions and English Peas.
