I know personally that many veterans who aren't retired get their prescriptions filled at the VA but things may have changed since I worked there. I'll try and check it out and get back to you. Meanwhile, go to goodrx.com and they'll send you a free card that will allow you to purchase at a great discount. tHe card is free and you do not have to have insurance. The card says you save up to 80% on prescription drugs at virtually any U.S. pharmacy. I checked the internet and this is what I found: You need to register to be seen at you local VA facility. Once you register and have an appointment, you need to ask your VA provider to rewrite the prescription to be filled in the vA pharmacy. The key is to register.... and once registered, you have your foot in the door. There are many veterans who aren't retired but due to Obamacare and the requirement to have health insurance elected to go to the VA healthcare system to avoid penalties. My neighbor across the street wasn't a VA patient and he recently registered and was seen and had his prescription re-written to be filled in the OKC VA pharmacy. Hope this helps to some degree, I know yo'd have to take off of your job to register etc but as time goes on, you'll be glad you did because guess what? When we get older things change and wear out and we need even more medication.
