If I am understanding you correctly, it was the 6.5mm Grendel, which is based on the 7.62 X 39. Would this make the 224 Valkyrie a .224 X 39?
No, I meant that it was closer to a AR15 sized cartridge than a AR10 cartridge. I used Grendel as an example as I couldn't remember what the 224 Valkyrie cartridge was based on. Someone above (edit-Nikatkimber) said the Valkyrie is based on 6.8 SPC.

By the way, Grendel is based on .220 Russian, not 7.62x39 M43, which in turn is based on 7.92mm Short (Kurz)

I have high hopes for this round. 90gr and don't reach subsonic until after 1300!
Welcome to the discussion.
I have high hopes as well but as far as training cost go, the 6.5 has it. There are several rounds in this platform that are making some traction, but who knows. I was too young to care about the beta vs VHS wars but called it on the Blu-ray and M-lok.

.224 valkyre I crunched numbers.
2700fps from the 90gr matchking with .563BC.
1000 yards 345" drop. 80" wind drift. I am not putting past the decimal.

.308 155gr. .504 BC. 2800 fps 342" drop 88" wind drift. 1000 yard
.308 178gr .535 BC. 2730 fps 348" drop 84.9" drift. 1000 yards.

the same 155gr at .504 BC at 3176 fps 254" drop and 73" drift at 1000.
That was my hot 30-06 load.

Out of curiousity, if you are wondering how much power it has; at 1000yds the 90gr .224 Valkyrie going 1359fps has 67% MORE power than a CorBon 90gr JHP .380acp at the muzzle.

Here's an even better comparison.

95gr CorBon DPX going 1300fps has 357ft*lbs vs the 369ft*lbs of the 90gr Valkyrie @ 1000yds.

The curiosity came when I started thinking about the fact that we consider 9mm sufficient to arm police officers with, but I keep hearing how "blah blah blah .223 isn't sufficient to kill past 300yds *or whatever the claim is*"

I have been following this thread with interest. So are we saying the .224 with the lighter bullet (90gr) is in the same realm of the .308 @155gr & 178? My interest is peaked at the ft lbs at 1000yds and the potentiality of lethal kills.
