My dad and I shot .300 caliber rifles and loved them!!! I have NEVER had a problem taking Okie deer to mule deer and elk in Colorado. My buddies thought it was over kill when I hunted antelope in New Mexico with a 300 WinMag instead of a .270 and never had any issues. My dad had NO problems with moose in Montana . I don't hunt anymore so I sold them and gave a few to my nephew. * I cannot speak for the 6.5 Creedmoor as I have no experience with them nor knew anyone with that caliber of rifle. Rifles I have owned and inherited from my father: Late 1950's to mid 1960's..Weatherby Mark V (J P Sauer/German made)both in .300 WinMag & .300 Weatherby **MY father knew THE Art Mashburn back in the 1960's when his store and gunsmith shop was in the NW 12th and Penn. area...before he passed away and it was sold but HIS NAME WAS STILL USED. We had a few of his .300 Mashburn rifles and if I remember correctly....as a short cut....my dad would fire his .300 H&H to fire-form the brass to re-load it to .300 Mashburn...if I remember correctly. Mashburn built two custom .300WinMags for my father....inherited to me...and later sold. Original Holland & Holland rifle with the .300 H&H chambered caliber. This was a GREAT shooter and a unique story behind it. My dad had a good friend who took care of the DuPont(yes-the-DuPont) family animals and oversaw the compound/house in Florida. One year ..I'm guessing the mid to late 1960's...they had "Joe"(I'll use this name) come up to Maryland for Christmas because they had a gift for him. Yes it was that .300 H&H. "Joe" gave it to my dad ..in turn I inherited it....then I sold it about 1990/91. Then a couple of Pre-64, Winchesters in .300 WinMag. All are gone....and I don't regret selling them or giving my nephew a few. I don't hunt at all anymore and my hunting guns are looooooong gone. If I did have any I'd let you shoot them and see for yourself if you'd like a .300WinMag. ***Look at the 7mm Mag if you get a chance** I had buddies that really loved them.
