Quadrajets have a vacuum operated plunger (power piston) that operates the metering rods (which open the fuel jets). The plunger/piston is prone to gunk buildup and sticking after sitting for long periods, which would explain the failure to accelerate. You have to remove the top of the carburetor to access it.

B-12 Chemtool (if they still make it?) is your friend.

They still make B-12. I run it in my gas tank from time to time.

First, did you remove any of the plug wires at the distributor? Second the vacuum advance modulator on the distributor may have a leak. Put a small price of hose on it and Slightly suck on it and hold your tongue on the end of hose in your mouth to see if it will hold a vacuum. Also the trans modulator may have a leak also. And lastly the old quadrajet carbs are notorious for problems better off getting it rebuilt
