If you’ve seen my classified posts you’d know I have purchased a few firearms today and listing them for sale. Out of what I bought this is one i am most likely keeping but I wanted to ask about 6mm Rem since that is what is is chambered in. Got a Remington 700 chambered in this caliber and all I know is it’s similar to .243 I think. I also got quite a bit of ammo with it already too, some appear to be reloads though so those will have to be pulled.

Should I hang onto it or let it go. Only rifle I reload for right now is .308Win

Is 6mm Rem beneficial in any way?

Hair faster than a .243 based off of the .308 of course, it was Remington's answer to Winchester's .243 and they called it the .244 based off of a 7x57. Only problem was they used too slow of barrel twist, and it didn't take off like Remington wanted it to. So they went with a faster twist, and renamed the .244 to 6mm Rem. If you decide to sell let me know, I may know someone interested in the rifle and I'm definitely interested in the ammo. I've got a Rem Model 7 in 6mm and a Ruger 77 in 6mm.

Biggest issue I see with a used 6mm Rem is just like buying a used .220 Swift or .22-250 etc...

Need to factor the cost of a re-barrel into it, because it doesn't take a lot to shoot one out. I know that most of those rifles are advertised as only having '100 rounds' or so through them, but that is like meeting a chick at a bar that's 'only slept with three men'...and going home with her. Chances of an honest disclosure are pretty slim, and you're about to find out the hard way that both are pretty shot out.

Otherwise it is a fantastic cartridge for those that want a flat-shooting 6mm.

99.9999999999999999999% of shooters will never shoot a barrel out. Barrels made in the last 30y-40y are light years ahead of the barrels made in the 1930's thru 1950's .220 swift when those "barrel burners" came about and were popular. Total non factor imo, especially since the 6mm is only 50-100fps faster than a .243, and it's hardly considered a "barrel burner".

It takes less than 1500 rounds, and only about 1K if it sat over a prairie dog town. Non-factor for people who don't shoot, or consider a 100FPS loss with 1+ MOA accuracy acceptable. Big factor for all of the other people who swap out barrels when this occurs.

Right, and 99.9% don't shoot that much. 1500 rounds isn't a magic number for barrel wear either, lot's of factors there.
