870 Mfg Date

I've got an older 870 that's been in the family for a good while and trying to find out how old it actually is. Everything I've seen on dating an 870 is based on barrel markings, not so much the receiver SN. I don't have any of the letter designations on the barrel, I highly doubt it's been swapped due to condition of it. What I have are the markings in the attached pics, anybody have any info on what they mean/indicate

With my google foo I found the date is on left side of barrel and first letter is month and that would be December for your shot gun and XX would be 1951.

Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.

* the years 1943 though 1953 had double letters: ie, MM = 1943


As maybe seen, the year code letters duplicate; some knowledge of when the model was introduced should resolve the actual year of manufacture.

For some reason I must have just zoned out reading through that website and the codes because I've been there before.
