When I was in grade school we had a music teacher by the name of Mrs. Newman. She had us sing some song about, "Who built the ark, Noah, Noah. and we sang it with gusto, "Who let the fart, Newman, Newman." And she would smile and beam because her students were so involved.

I had a college roommate with perfect pitch, he could hear a song and just sit down at a piano and play it. This wasn't just a good ear, he could play it note for note.
Didn't use his talent, didn't seem like a big deal to him.

My dad played ‘by ear’ he could pick up just about any instrument and play a song he just heard. He had to learn to read music in his 50’s so he could start writing songs.
