A long forgotten story about two "gunfighters",,,
It took place in the Blue Bell Saloon in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Back in 1999 or 2000 I was a member of the Guthrie Gunfighters,,,
We staged old west shootouts at fairs and events across central Oklahoma.

This happened at the Tom Mix Festival in (I think) 2000.

Right after a shootout on Main Street,,,
Me and two other gunfighters went into the Blue Bell saloon for coffee.

We three were in full cowboy garb,,,
I was carrying a long-ish barrel 1858 Remington in a cross-draw holster,,,
The other two were both carrying short barrel 1878 Colts in normal right side holsters.

We were all standing with our coffee at the end of the bar,,,
There were two very nice looking ladies sitting at a small table right beside us.

We struck up a conversation with them.

Things were going all nice and friendly with the two lovely ladies,,,
Then one of them pointed to my Remington and asked:
"Why is yours so much longer than theirs?"

This was one of those moments when a person's brain loses control of their mouth.

Before I really knew what I was doing, I looked her straight in the eye and replied,,,
"Genetics."

Much coffee was spit on the floor that moment.

Good one. When I was young, and first married, I worked in a meat market in a grosery store in Tulsa. A nice looking middle age lady called me out to the counter, and ask, do you have something that is about this big around, and this long, making gestures with her hands, before my brain kicked in I said, lady I don't have anything that looks like that! I was shocked that I had said that, luckily she had a since of humor, and didn't tum me in!
