Ladies and Gents,

In 136 days, I’ll graduate from West Point (God willing...). Each year, our pistol team works with Colt to design a couple commemorative 1911s for our graduating class.

The version I’m eyeing is blued with gold inlay of our class crest and other symbols representing the Academy. I’ll try to attach photos, but I’m on mobile and don’t know if I can figure that out.

On the one hand, I don’t want to miss the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy this memento. On the other, it’s $1200 for a primarily artistic piece that I don’t envision myself ever shooting. I don’t know if I’d even be comfortable handling it as I could end up messing it up somehow.

What says the OSA community?

I see it like this. You have one chance to buy it and if you decide to sell it you'll have plenty of chances I'd say. It's like buying insurance so you won't regret not getting it. But, you can sell it later if you don't want or need it.
