A friend of ours was telling us today about her husband and son. The husband served in Vietnam and was a victim of Agent Orange, and passed away several years ago. The son has some physical and mental issues. She has heard the it is not uncommon for the first-born of soldiers who were exposed to that substance to have similar issues that her son is experiencing.

Have any of you heard of this? If there is something to this,do you know of any help groups or such that might be helpful? This young man, and his wife are very nice people who are struggling.

If you know of anything, please let me know, either in this thread of PM.

I believe that if there is anything, this group would be aware of it.

Thanks,

It's very real, even with grandchildren as some are saying. The VA still denies it just like they did with Agent Orange originally, finally having to say, the chemical agent did cause vets issues.
Here are some links.

I can continue to post links as it's real but denied by the government.

I was stationed on Johnston Island (represented by the star at the point of the arrow in my profile pic) for a year. I knew they had previously stored the Agent Orange stockpile on island after Vietnam....but I didn't know the level of area contamination.

In the soil, in the waters, in the fish we caught and ate. Storing AO drums out in the open surrounded by salt water....what could possibly go wrong?

We used to go fishing 400 yards from this fence line. Pretty obvious they had leaking drums from the staining on the coral:

I over worked for one of the the companis that manufactured Agent Orange for the government (back in the late 90s). They actually only manufactured the emulsifier but I am pretty sure they had to blend it with agent orange on site. The entire building and production unit had been destroyed and removed long ago and it‘s now a parkign lot. But let‘s be honest its is not as though we have gotten much better about such things (look at Round Up) its now being linked to so many health issues its scary. Oddly enough the same company maid the emuslifier / sticker - spreader for Round Up too.

Only experience I have is a good friend of mine and my older brother's best friend passed away several years ago from it. He was in Corp of Engineers and they would airlift him and his dozer in to a site for him to clear. In the mean time they would start spraying all around him. He said he stayed drenched in the stuff, poncho wouldn't help. His cholesterol was often past 800, had all kinds of heart issues, liver problems etc.

I seem to remember a few years ago when obummer admin was thinking of allowing ao to be used in US. Did not get far but was under consideration. Is ao one of those lovely safe chemicals brought to us by the friendly folks at usc berkeley? Trying to find the name of the safe pesticide they created many moons ago which off gases, rises to the atmosphere, has a five hundred or so year half life, does not break down, and actually destroys ozone. Guy went to prison a few years back for actually giving lectures on it along with other actions. They still get royalties for the manufacture and sale I believe. Very civic minded that lot.

There may be help from the VA as well for the kid/family. Worth looking in to. If any of you old timers fit this criteria, I would suggest looking into it as well.

it’s been said by many people that burn pits are the agent orange of our current OEF/OIF batch of veterans. I feel that the push from the Burn pit side of things has spurred the VA into taking more responsibility for agent orange, thankfully. I feel it’s too little, too late; but it’s better than nothing.
