AI, it's fans and questions

Please refrain from talk of personal beliefs, doctrine etc.. The real issue is given where AI is going(AI killer drones) should there be questions of limits being put on it? There are some sounding warnings from experts about possible dangers, do those have valid basis or just Luddites fearing/fighting change? What about the Bing chatbot that said some questionable things? We all know the scenario of out of control robots has been around for some time in science fiction, could there be real merit to it? What about those developing it, are their intentions honest and ethical or could some of them have ideas that might not be completely as they're saying? Could it open the door to an ultimate intellectual elitism where many if not most people aren't needed or wanted.
