I hate saying this, but we no longer live in a Constitutional Republic. We live in an Oligarchy, with a Kakistocracy government system. What will happen is a slow, steady decline in the quality of life, so long as the food, water and energy continue to flow. America will hobble along in "limp mode". People will become more dour, humorless and dissatisfied, but they'll cling bitterly to what's left rather than take the risks necessary to effect real change. Eventually we'll fall into a downward spiral that ends with the dissolution of our society. If any or all of those critical supply systems are disrupted or destroyed, then society will fail abruptly and we'll move into a "dark ages" scenario. Tribalism and feudalism will become the norm. Some localized enclaves will succeed and possibly even achieve happiness in a simplified way of life, but their future will always be uncertain. One more effect would be a diaspora event. People who find the status quo intolerable will seek out more favorable conditions, but their road will still be difficult. I see nothing in history to dispute the eventual end of the United States as an empire. All empires rise, sunset and eventually fall. The only cure that's eluded us is the one for our own human nature.
