I wish nukes were the answer. It would be so easy to drop a dozen or so on the entire region and make pretty glass marbles out of them.

Unfortunately, the stakes with nukes are too high. The risk is too great. All it takes is one nuke-owning nation to think that we are targeting them, or getting to close and we end up with a nuke landing on our own soil, and that triggers more nukes.

I think we need to go back to Atomic bombs like Fat Man for this job. Our current Thermonuclear weapons are just too large to be of any use.

When making war, nothing should be off the table, including nukes, and no country should feel safe from our military, esp Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi, Jordan. Support our enemy in any way and your country becomes the enemy and will be targeted.

But some of those people have nukes themselves... keep in mind, if it's not off the table for us, it's not off the table for them, either. :/

Idiocracy
Oklahoma Foreign Legion, or Christian foreign legion. So the state has no say in religion or it's legion. I'll make the first love offering of $1,000 dollars.

Thats war man. Thats what its going to take. We cant continue to pretend that Russia ISNT arming/supplying/training, our enemies. AK47s, RPGs,Tanks, Artillery, Aircraft ect all come from Russia or China, directly or indirectly.

Makes no sense to not stop the supply or suppliers. If Russia wont stop selling them arms, then they are the enemy as well. And if we aint willing to confront them, then we dont need to keep playing "pretend limited" war.

Lurker, you are starting to sound like W. with all this "with us or against us" talk.

One point you are over looking however is the fact the we supply as much or more arms to the region than anyone else. Hell, McCain was wanting to arm the very rebels that are beheading journalists right now.

So far we have calls for all out conventional war, nukes, helping establish a Kurdish state, and carpet bombing. In response to 2 journalists being beheaded. Seems a bit extreme. Especially considering the decade of occupation we just got finished with.

Fact is that the US is not serious about solving the problems in the Middle East. If we were, we would be opening up all kinds of drilling in ANWR and elsewhere while expanding nuclear energy and incentivizing citizens to purchase solar panels and wind turbines. Without the influence of oil the Middle East is just Africa to us. Sure it's tragedic what happens but it's easy enough to put those problems on the back burner and let them wallow in strife. It does not effect us directly.

So carry on beating war drums but no matter how much money and lives we throw at ISIS, another group just as barbaric will take their place. It's what the people in this region do. Really we would be better off to lay back and let them establish a state somewhere that we could actually attack with the full force of our military. That is a scenario in which our military excels. Instead of "declaring war" on a group and fighting an insurgency. Which we are still plenty good at but it is ultimately an unwinnable situation.

Im trying to point out that limited war hasnt and isnt a answer to the ISIL problems. Providing Air cover and arming Kurds and fighting with Drones aint going to solve anything.

Since the 1st Gulf War, the public has always said, not to get us in a quagmire like VN. If we're going to fight a war, let our military fight.

Sadly we never unleashed our military. In fact Since the end of Gulf 1, we've shackled our military. We puzzy footed around and got into 2 semi wars that now cant be won.

So yes, in a way im saying, either go to big boy war and start scorching earth or quit runnin our yaps about the atrocities ISIS is comitting.

There is no way to go to "big boy war" with a group of extremists. Only established govts. And even then the loss of life among innocents is astronomical and completely unacceptable in today's media saturated world. WWII could not happen in the 21st century. There were absurd levels of civilian casualties that would dwarf what modern society deems "acceptable".

War, even "big boy war" will not solve these problems. Energy independence will. It will allow us to not give a fukc about which Arabs are killing which. Use that money we would spend on bombs and tanks and divert it to large tax credits to make solar energy more accessible to each household. (They run about $30k for a house currently)

****, now I sound like a socialist.
