Again, digging through this estate, came across 4 boxes post marked from the Department of the Army. Open the only one that is already cut open and find boxes of M118 / M72 projectiles straight from Lake City. In total there were 39 unopened individual boxes of 100 projectiles.

“The new M118 ammo used the same 173gr FMJBT (Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail) bullet that the .30-06 M72 Match ammo used. This bullet was manufactured by Lake City and was based on the 1956 International Match bullet. The bullet itself had a lead alloy core (90% lead, 10% antimony) with a gilding metal jacket comprised of 90% copper and 10% zinc. The boattail was a 9 degree taper and was .225″ long. The original specification weight was 173gr but as time progressed and the tooling wore out, that weight began to spread from 172 – 175gr. The claimed ballistic coefficient of the bullet is .494 which was very high for that time period.”

I have a case of the successor to that stuff, M118LR. Comes with 175gr SMKs. Haven’t shot any yet, but I got it for a decent price. View attachment 294706View attachment 294707
Nice find! I have a couple boxes of that from waaay back, don't want to shoot it. I remember Bob Howard (gun guy not car guy) that had the gun shop on Reno south of the fairgrounds had ammo cans of that stuff.
