So, I’m still relatively new here; I see hunting and fishing are pretty popular topics, but I was wondering how many of you are Western riding/equestrian/rodeo/cattle enthusiasts? I just feel like there should be more discussion given this forum is for Oklahoma... 😂

For starters, I’m not a big rodeo fan but I’m slowly getting into the Western reining and cutting horse world, and cattle breeding (though I don’t actually own any of my own cattle).

Where are you from??

I am a veterinarian's daughter so ranching, rodeos and critters in general have been my whole life. Now I'm just an old country gal married to a city kid ... So my "ranch" consists of a couple dogs and a bunch of chickens, rabbits, ducks and quail. Did have cats but the last of that litter died a few months ago at the age of 24 ... Yep, he made it 24 years. 😭

Oh and a garden ... It remains to be seen if this one survives or not. 🤷😂

I live(d) in Guymon, but work on a ranch in the Southern Colorado Rockies during the Summer and go to school in South Dakota, so I guess I’m from a lot of places. It’s definitely a different breed of cattlemen further West though, or maybe I just enjoy riding in the mountains...

I can’t imagine giving that life up for the city, it would eat at me, but who knows, I’m young. Younger than your cat!! And sorry to hear, that is an impressive cat.

Quail are cool little buggers, and with the way the world is going I may be in line for starting a garden myself too.

I have some dirt, that I am older than. I have some cows. I have horses. Also, dogs, chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, pigs, and donkeys. Love rodeo and trail rides. Do cowboy action shooting. Avid reloader. Love to fish and camp. I have a garden, sometimes managing to get a bit to eat out of it.
I am about a far south as I can get and still be in Oklahoma.

Well never say never. I did a lot of things for my kids I'd have never even considered before they came along. I bet you dollar to donuts you are about the age of my oldest bunch of grandkids then! 😂😂 Those boys are old enough to make me a great-gramma now and I've threatened to tie a knot in the end of it if they do! Lol I'm not old enough to be a great-gramma ... YET!! Besides I want them to enjoy themselves a little first!

Welcome to OSA! These guys are a crotchety bunch of goobers but don't let them fool ya -- they are pretty good guys ...

Here, but occasionally There.
Not currently, but the wife and I both grew up in the Panhandle. She was raised on a farm/ranch a few miles SW of Elkhart, KS, and almost in the most extreme NW part of Texas County. I was raised in Keyes, OK, which is over in Cimarron County by about 20 miles or so from where she grew up. All things considered, farm and ranch jobs (mostly farming) was about the only type of job that a young fellow could find while growing up. My grandpa and dad were both farmers.

I also worked a few years for the wife's father, so we dealt with cattle more there than I did when I was growing up and working for Dad and Grandpa.

Going beyond that, we used to vacation a lot at Purgatoire River Campground, which is west and north from Trinidad, CO, and we've traveled quite a bit through Colorado. As for South Dakota, the wife and I did vacation there around Rapid City about a year and a half ago.

All that said, welcome to OSA.

I’ve got a wife, a 3 legged blue heeler, and a whole bunch of cows.

I understand the dog and cattle a whole lot better than my wife but I love her more so it’s all good here on the “ranch”.

Peter1861,
You’re right about not giving up the country life for city life. Couldn’t do it my self, my wife was from the city when I met her and we only go to the city on occasional weekends.

Welcome to OSA!

I have a donkey!
That's what she said

Was visiting son. Getting ready for bed and in see a bottle of Viagra in the medicine cabinet. I was about to take one and son walked by, "Dad, what are you doing? Those are $10 a pill."

"Just thought I would try one. I will leave $10 under the pillow, when we leave."

On the way home, phone rings, "Dad, in said $10. There is $110 here."

"Yep, Mom left the $100."
