I got a recluse bite on my calf while serving in the US Army in West Germany in the late 70s. That spider is not native to Europe so it had to have hitched a ride in my possessions or somebody else's to be present to bite me. The PA in the battalion medical clinic knew immediately what it was and started a regimen of oral antibiotics, wound treatment with debriding by hydrogen peroxide, antiseptic soap cleaning, application of topical antibiotic cream with a bandage. Good luck with your treatment!

I appreciate all y’all’s advice/help. I called and he put me on a 2nd antibiotic and a mild pain reliever(can’t take the “good” stuff makes me sick), other then that just said if it gets worse to come back in…
Was able to at least get 5hrs of sleep last night so feeling a little better. Bite has a hole about the size of a dime this morning, oozing crap out so that’s good. Still hurts like hell but I believe the swelling has receded some. Ill try to get a picture uploaded later and see what yah think, my doctor retired so had to see a new one but after this I will be looking for yet another primary. Guess back to 1:20 drive for a decent one

If it was me, I would see a surgeon/wound specialist. Outpatient wound clinic maybe. It could be a non-healing wound or you could have tunneling or undermining & should have it addressed by an expert. Good luck

I’m assuming a spider but the doctor didn’t know either. I can post some start pictures but it’s in a spot that’s very uncomfortable.
I don’t want to post pics unless someone maybe can give advice for the pain, If so I’ll post some just forewarning it’s pretty nasty. Doc put me on an antibiotic pills and that’s it. Pain meds make me turn red and feel hot but at this point I may have him call something in, haven’t slept in 48hrs. Feels like a bullet that didn’t pass thru, I’ve been shot before but it was straight through, sorta the same feeling but non stop.
Any advice appreciated
I read all the posts. With the necrosis ( blackened skin) , I believe it’s a Brown Recluse spider bite. One, & only one , effective & proper treatment. Medicine called DAPSONE . It’s also used to treat leprosy, also involving necrotic tissue. Any other medical treatment involving: antibiotics, steroids don’t work, and surgery is actually contraindicated. DAPSONE DAPSONE. Best of luck.

I’m not sure if the doctor here will do anything, like refer to someone other then himself.
I’m going to a new doctor at the same place I’ve been going for 20yrs Tuesday. My doctor retired.
But this is why you avoid the medical offices and hospital around here, I drive 1:30 one way due to this kind of unsanitary conditions.

That "creek" and "river" near where you live must be awfully skungy.

A crocodile infested river might be better.

I was bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider on top of my foot. It must have been in my work shoes on the back porch I guess. I didn't feel the bite, just noticed the sore on my foot. this was on a weekend, and my wife told me I should go to the E.R. I got on the internet to try and figure out what had bitten me, and this bite was so distinictive It was obvuious what it was. I read about rotting out the flesh, and decided she was right! After a few hours in the ER an pup docter came and looked at it and said you were bitten by a brown recluse spider! he then a calll all the other pup doctors in the hospital down to look at it! I guess none of them had seen a brown recluse spider bite before, including him? This took another couple of hours, then he said, there is no anti-vinum for this, it's Nero-toxin vinum, and only Hemo-toxin has anti-vinum! After about 6 or 7 hours they said, keep it clean, and if necessary go to would specialist, It healed OK, the bill was $100.00 co-pay, for the ER, and $2,500.00 the insurance's part. They negoated that down to about 10%/15% and ended up paying about $300.00 I think! I'm not sure which was worse the spider bite, or the ER visit?
