Picked this up today.

1949 Winchester 74.

The good. AFTER cleaning it appears to function OK.

The bad. It was the NASTIEST gun I have EVER cleaned. What you don't see is the rust under the stock and the 50+ small roach carcasses that came out of the stock and embeded in the bolt and internals. (I'll spare you the pics of that.) I still have the heebie jeebies. :puke:

Here is just some out what I scraped out of the stock.

First time I've ever cleaned a gun and felt like I needed a shower afterwards...

I wasn't gonna post these, but you just wouldn't understand otherwise. And these were taken AFTER I shook out the loose stuff.

Oh, I also found the trigger tension spring is missing.

My dad's friend from Louisiana showed up today for a few days of deer hunting, like he has the last few years. He came bearing gifts (for our hospitality over the years I guess), and gave me this! My wife got a Cameo crafting machine (like a Cricut) for her gift. We told him it was not necessary, but it did no good of course! First time I've been gifted a gun from anyone besides family; its not new but definitely not hurt!View attachment 322867View attachment 322868
That is one sweet looking pistola. Are you/do you reload for it? Looks like a sweet shooter.
