I'm trying to figure out what to do with this fly rod. its an 8' AmberJack rod. I believe this was my grandfathers. not 100% though. It's been sitting in the metal storage tube in my garage for the past 13 year.

Fish with it!!!

How do the guides and guide wraps look?

Are the ferrules in good shape?

Does the rod need to be refinished?

My father in-law gave me a fly rod a couple of weeks ago, and it is 92 years old!

Everything is in good shape. Obviously used but nothing damaged or in need of repair.

I have my grandfathers fly rods that he built, in the obligatory aluminum tube.
He tied his own flies, hand carved and whittled his own lures for bass and made his own jigs for crappie.
Use caution throwing some of the old fly rods. Bamboo and fiberglass tend to harden with age. I've seen several Bamboo rods broken by aggressive fly fishermen with bigger pond lures.
I have grandpa's split bamboo fly rods around here somewhere. Three extra tips because they were prone to breaking.
A friend picked up a vintage bamboo Japanese fly rod from the 40's in a very ornate wooden box at a garage sale a few years back for chump change.
He has turned down some pretty good offers for it.
