It is definitely a gun for the guy who loads his own. I run mine with 350gr XTPs at 1500 fps, and it isn't bad at all. It's a fun gun to shoot. I wouldn't want to have to carry it on my hip. I'd probably walk in circles.
Unfortunately anything in OK over .45 is illegal to carry, so .454 Casull (only .004 over), .460 Ruger, .50 AE, .50 GAP and 500 S &W would be illegal. I would imagine with the .500 though you wouldn't have to pull the trigger, someone would have a heart attack staring down the barrel of it!

As for the .500 no desire to shoot one. I'm not a hunter and currently there isn't a major Raptor or T-Rex problem in Oklahoma, all though that could change.

I would imagine though the .500 would be a great implement for those that hunt or need it to protect themselves from bears, There are those that hunt bear with .357 mag, however I would think that would be a little light.

Shot the 500 some and it is not bad. the 700 grain bullets are a little harsh but will only shoot those in a life or death situation. i expect the 400 grain buffalo bullets will kill anything anyway.

Reminds of the lady reporter who once asked the Texas Ranger why he carried a .45:
"Ma'am, I carry a .FortyFive because they don't make a .FortySix."
I can't find the exact clip anymore (Algos? Mandela Effect?) but I'm guessing some of
you may recall seeing it as well.

As a 'kid' I'd shoot matched pairs of Nickel Plated S&W 29-2 .44 Mags, one in ea. hand. One pr. had 6" Barrels, the other pr. had 8 3/8" barrels. All 4 had the wooden Presentation Cases. I know, I know...I'm
just exceptionally dainty, & shiny .44s in pretty boxes is just plain 'foo foo' ;-/
I also had a crazy ol' 'Ex' CIA friend in his 70s who shot a pair of 45-70 wheel-guns. I forget who made them, but as I recall, they were extended frame, long barreled, stainless Rugers (to begin with).
Never had the op to fire a .500 myself, but hey:
Why Stop There?

I guess this gent's Motto is; 'Never bring a gun to a Cannon Fight".

Notice: the Big-gun has a STEEL frame. Not brass.

454 is .002 over the limit. It has a bullet diameter of .452 as does the 460 sw mag, 45 long colt and 45 acp. So something tells me they round down to the nearest hundredth.

I know guys that have or had 475 and 500 Linebaughs, 460 Smiths and 500 Smiths. The 500 (fullsize/ported) was not bad at all to me, with 300-350ish gr bullets; the Linebaughs with a 400ish at 1250 are worse but nothing bothersome really; the 460 was the worst to me for sure. Handguns have never bothered me near as much as recoil in long guns.
