I remember all the great stores and movie theaters they tore down to build that ugly williams center
I really miss all the junk/resale stores that were along 1st & archer streets in the 60's

My grandma worked in the ONG building during downtown's heyday, and her stories about how bustling it was back then are really interesting, as are the photos. I'm glad she's around to at least see some life coming back into it after sitting dead for so many years.

She says Utica Square was the beginning of the end for downtown shopping.

Southroads did have a Renbergs. I got all my Polo shirts and BS there during the 1980's. As a little kid, I remember the toy shop there and the book stores.

Yea, I skated there a couple times. Do you remember the theater that was there too?

Vaguely yes, but I never went to any films there. I remember they had a pretty cool toy store.

Park Lane Twin and Admiral Twin were normally it for me. Mall 31 and Fox 4 too (before there were dollar theaters). Movies 8 killed those though.

Wasn't southroads on one side of the street, and southland on the other? Was it southroads that was an outside type of mall with covered walkways?
Across the street where the theater is now, or in that area they had a Coney Islander, and eventually a PeeWee's burgers... Best burger on an old style greasy bun available for a while.

Does anyone else remember the rest. at the corner of 31st and Sheridan called King's, it too had a phone to order from and the best grilled cheese sandwich ever.
Also, Southroads was a mall and Southland was an open air single, story mall which is now Promanade Mall.

My girlfriend used to work at the Across The Street restaurant at admiral & Sheridan. Now I feel really seasoned. I met Mr Renberg before he passed. Nice gentleman.
