Anyone seen a Ruger .22 like this

It’s from the mid 50’s. chrome looks original but never seen any western grips like this so I’m sure they’re aftermarket. Any ideas information? Haven’t fired it in a decade but it shoots fine.View attachment 236308
MK 1 ? dont remember had one just like it i got from my uncle when i was 14 or 15 - the grips

According to "Ruger Automatic Pistols" That SN 68xxx fell into a group that was produced until about the end of 1953.

The only mention of plating is for the 6" model in 1954 when 8 were plated and mounted on a "wheel" for display purposes.

These guns go through a lot in their life. It is likely someone had it plated at some point.

I have a Mark I from 1968 with a plated upper, the previous owner did some sort of competitions with it, the trigger is pretty amazing.

I also have a standard from 1952 in the 466xx series, it was rough when I got it. I was fortunate enough to have Don Frantsen re-blue it for me, it is nothing short of gorgeous. It may have diminished the value of the gun, doesn't matter, it will always be in my family and we like it the way it is now.
