Howdy shooters!

The next Oklahoma Appleseed will be held at Excalibur Sporting Goods in Afton, OK on August 13-14. Join us on this great range, complete with an air-conditioned classroom, as we teach a traditional American skill -- rifle marksmanship from field positions. You will also learn about a part of your heritage that you have likely never heard before -- the story of April 19, 1775 -- a day when folks a lot like you and I were forced into the terrible decision whether to fight a costly war against their own countrymen, or to live as slaves.

Bring any rifle and 400 rounds of ammo, and we will teach you to be a better marksman as well as a better American. The ideal rifle for this event is a magazine-fed semi auto -- we shoot the 25m Army Qualification Test, which requires rapid fire and quick reloads under time pressure. However, any rifle is welcome on the line. Bolt guns can usually keep up if they take stripper clips or detachable mags. We will give tube feeds a special procedure that will allow them to keep up. An adjustable sling is highly recommended, since we teach field positions using a sling for support. .22s are OK, and are a great way to be able to attend this event while keeping ammo costs affordable. Center fire rifles are welcome and encouraged.

Excalibur has a full service gun shop, and sells all the add-ons necessary to put together a .22 "Liberty Training Rifle" (a .22 that simulates a battle rifle, popular for Appleseeds). GI web slings, sling studs, 1.25" swivels, Tech Sights for the Marlin and Ruger, as well as extra mags for common rifles are available at Excalibur very good prices. Mike will even install them for you. He also sells complete rifles, and ammo.

A Rifleman should be able to pick up any sighted-in rack grade rifle with standard ball ammo and iron sights and control the "Rifleman's Quarter Mile." This means being able to hit any 20"-wide target within 500 yards. An Appleseed marksmanship clinic teaches all skills necessary to shoot to this standard.

No matter what your reason for owning a rifle, Appleseed will make you more effective by teaching you how to make yourself a more stable shooting platform. Hunters will increase their confidence in taking longer shots.
3 gun/practical rifle shooters will learn techniques that will help greatly with smaller and longer range targets. Competitors in NRA, CMP, and other positional shooting disciplines will get some great coaching and feedback on tightening up their positions. Defenders of life and liberty will increase their max effective range, and increase their confidence in their ability to hit the target. And if you just like shooting for fun, it doesn't get a whole lot more fun or challenging than seeing how you stack up on the Army Qualification Test.

Register now, and see why Appleseed is America's fastest-growing marksmanship organization. Cost is $70 for the weekend, or $40 if you can only make it for one day. Women, young 'uns under 21, active military, guard, and reserve, and folks in law enforcement shoot for drastically discounted rates.

Loaner rifles are available. Contact me for more info.

I know the temperature might take a toll on our turnout this time, but if you've been wanting to come to an Appleseed, remember that we have an air-conditioned classroom. You won't find a better summer range to attend an Appleseed at. Also, a lower instructor-to-student ratio will mean more intensive coaching. If you don't get a chance to pre-register online, you can go ahead and show up and pay the registration fee in cash.
