What is the purpose of the heavy soft nose bullets?

Common .223/5.56 bullet weights are 55gr +/-, then 62, 69, 75-77.
I always liked 110gr and 125gr soft-nosed in .30-06, and that's just what came to mind. 100gr might be kinda long for .22 caliber I guess, but sheesh I have 50gr hollow points in .22WMR.

One problem with the ultra
heavy bullets (80gr & up) is they must be seated so deep in the case to fit in the mag it eats up a lot of
powder space. That's why you don't see them in factory loadings. Hope this helps.
Thanks. There's a lot to learn about ARs when ya been mostly ignoring 'em. :D

Just get one in 5.56 caliber. Then you can shoot either 5.56 or 223 in it.
223/5.56 ammo is cheap and you can find it everywhere.
If it's your first AR stick with 5.56. its hell on wheels at 200yd (which you have stated as your desired shooting range).
This looks like the current plan. :drunk2:

Neanderthal's 6.5 Grendel "Goldilocks" was what turned the tide. Not crazy about the open/skeleton stock, but the color scheme and lack of a handle on top looks pretty good IMO. It's literally the first AR that had ever appealed to me.

So, what's up with the lust for Colt in particular?
its their bread and butter. they make good ARs. The price tag of said ARs are much higher than $500. So it would be an excellent purchase. Basically someone just casually said "go buy this gun for about 40% cheaper than you thought you could buy it"...so we all want to know where these guns are because that would be a great deal.

The difference is about 1700fps. More than double the velocity. 50gr HP Federal .22wmr runs 1530fps vs 55gr JHP Tula running 3240fps.

If it were me I would order a kit from Palmetto $300 (or another vendor) then go buy a lower $50-$60. Watch a couple youtube videos to learn how to put it together and for $350-$400 you will have a complete rifle. This will help you learn the gun (it did for me anyway). I've purchased one complete AR and it never leaves the safe, I always take the guns I've assembled first......something about putting them together and making them work is much more appealing. Best of luck on whatever direction you decide to go, you will soon be broke like the rest of us, its addictive.
