The bass pro Black Friday ad came in today and they have the savage XP line for $249, after the rebate. Anyone have experience with these? I’d just like to have a decent bolt action rifle for the deer woods and taking out to the range a few times each year. Been debating on a .308 or 6.5, but leaning towards .308 since it seems to be more available right now.

I might have one in 6.5CM. Decent rifle. Needed more scope so put on a 3-18x on it. Shoots a smidge over moa with 140-143gr factory ammo. 129 gr is about a 4 moa proposition. Could definitely do better with handloads. Wish it had the adjustable trigger and the stock is meh. However, for $249 I was thinking about getting another one. Possibly in .308. However, I won’t be anywhere near a BPS on Friday and don’t want to deal with the crowds anyways. So, we’ll be at the lake house in Texas.

But, yes, if you can get one for that price in .308 or any common rifle caliber and need a rifle, it’ll serve you well.

Need is a relative term but I agree. Hard to beat for 250! The sale lasts all weekend. I’m thinking about calling tomorrow to see how many they got in and try to go later this weekend.
