This was the first I had seen or heard about a crashed B-17 in our decade. I saw the B-24 Liberator and a B-25 Mitchell fly around a few times. I have also seen the B-17 that usually flies with FIFI a few times here since I'm on the outskirts of Wiley Post. Back in the 90's we looked into getting FIFI to come to a air show. It was cost prohibitive as they wanted $10K per engine per hour and a guaranteed attendance of 500,000 people. A B-17 always flew with her and they were a separate expense. WP also has an A-20 Havoc that is based there. The same publication also said the F/A-18 Hornet was flown for the last time by the Navy on that same day. It has been replaced by the F/A-18 Superhornet and the F-35. The Blue Angels will transfer over to the Superhornet in 2021 and the Marines will still use them for a few more years as close combat air support for ground troops.
