[QUOTE="CutBaitNBlowSh*tUp4ALivin, post: 3225092, member: 2106"] So, my kid has a field trip coming up. It's for Mustang Public Schools. I don't think the school, grade, or specific destination are important for the topic. We got a note coming home saying that whether you intend to sponsor or just attend as parents, you have to complete a mandatory background check. Even though no parent is allowed on the bus, and we would be driving separately far into the OKC area, every parent has to pass a background check to be allowed into a very public place (i.e. a museum). Not only is it a ridiculously in-depth background check, with employment and SSN, each person has to pay $12 for the screening, to get to go to a place that's free with the school, or is $7 any other day. I couldn't get an answer on how long the check was good for (is it $24 for us for every future field trip or is it a one-time fee?). I have half a mind to take him to the field trip destination the Saturday before to spend a full day there without the screening, and just keep him home that day and spend the full school day at the Sam Noble museum in Norman. I welcome any and all thoughts and comments. P.S. I have no problem with the theory of the background check, I just think the school should foot the bill, especially since they are including any and all of the "volunteers" they so desperately beg for. I have included the link, which seems to be an overall "volunteer background check" for MPS, and screenshots of the home page for people that don't like to click links.
