So, I’ve always wanted to try a crossbow. I’m 32 and shot my first one last year. It was a buddies and I thought it was pretty cool. Cool enough for me to drop a few bucks on one this year. This same buddy and I are wanting to setup an archery blind for hogs and coyotes to hunt at night. We thought it would be more challenging/fun to do it with bows over rifles. The blind is somewhat compact and slightly difficult to draw a bow in. Thus, the crossbow fits a need (at least that’s what I tell my wife).

Anyhow, being new to it, and not knowing if it was for me or not, I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money. I did some research and shopped around and settled on the Barnett TS 370. I was able to pick it up for $345 shipped and it was ready to shoot out of the box. From what I read online, Barnett had a few sketchy years in QC and CS around 2010-2013. But have since learned from their mistakes and are back building nice xbows again. Felt like it was a slight gamble but worth a shot. Along with the xbow, I wanted to pick up a familiar brand of arrow/bolts, so I bought a few of the VAP Voodoo’s (later on those).

The bow literally arrived today and I was able to play around with it for a bit before we headed off to the in-laws for supper. I have to say, shooting this little sucker brought a smile to my face. I plan on setting it up for a night time weapon (IR light, NV, etc) and having a lot of fun with it. It will not be replacing my compound bow anytime soon, but it definitely adds a different dynamic to the game.

You’ll have to take this with a grain of salt, as I’ve had less then an hour with it, but the bow seems to shoot true, is fairly quiet, easy to cock, has a nice trigger and the scope tracked well. Did a 2 shot group at 20 yards, dialed it up and left the appropriate amount of clicks for that distance and boom, in the ring. As for the bolts, these dang voodoos are some penetrating suckers. The voodoo’s are 22” long and the headhunter’s are 20”. You can see from the pics below that they go deep. The first target pic were my first shots (low and right) and I thought I had lost a new bolt right out of the gate. Had to go behind the target to see it. Lost the dang nock in the bag, but was glad I didn’t lose the whole thing. As you can see from the pics, the VAP’s definitely sink in further then your standard bolt.

I plan on shooting it more this weekend and I’ll post thoughts/results here. It’s still real early to tell, but I think you would be safe to buy this bow. I like the adjustable stock in case my kids or wife want to shoot it and it is really light and easy to handle. If you made it this far, I appreciate your time and hope you found some useful information out of it. Or, at least, some small entertainment. Enjoy the pics!

Side note: sorry for all the post recently. Deer season is around the corner and I’m getting a little antsy.

Nice setup. I shoot a Barnett predator and have taken it out 65 yards on a target and still hitting the bullseye. Is the scope illuminated or have the reticle lines for distances? My old bow was illuminated and the reticle is hard to see in low light with my current bow. Thinking about going with the illuminated Tru Glow

It has reticle lines for distance. If I go with a different scope, it will be this one:

I’ve been hunting with a recurve crossbow (Excalibur) for several years now, and the accuracy is pretty amazing. I tried a multi reticle scope and found it useful but unnecessary. I currently have a Swarovski Z6 illuminated 1.7-10 on my hunting bow. I limit my hunting range to 30 yards, and with a 25 yard zero, I can aim/shoot dead on out to 30 yards with minimal variation.

I still carry binos to the stand, but with a 10x scope, I really don’t need to.

This post reminded me that I purchased a crossbow a few months ago and hadn't even opened the box, so I slapped it together. After seeing yours....I think I need to upgrade.
