We had a couple of old broke to death horses when I was a kid. Then I got older and wanted to back up my hat so took up roping which lead to land and cattle and all sorts of money soaking nonsense. First roping horse I bought I really didn’t know come here from sic’em about. Backed him in the box and turned a few like I knew what I was doing. Learned later that he was aced up til his dingus was in the dirt. Shows how much I knew. When that stuff wore off he was like a barrel of nitro in August. Son of a gun tried to kill me with anything he could drag which was just about anything you could tie him to. The only way you could remotely keep him under control was ride him out like would kill any other horse. Got him sold to a fella that needed a practice horse that you couldn’t find the end of. Never bucked off, but terrified in myriad other ways. Now days I’m kind of partial to gaited mules. Better sense, better ride and you don’t have to replace a good one every ten years if you work them.
