“if it's winter we would have no heat without the furnace”

Simple for $200 you can buy a ventless heater for gas or propane, it heats 1000 sq ft. It doesn’t need electricity. I have the ability to partition my house off to keep the water from freezing and have actually used this for a month when my main unit went down, worked great.

Holler at me if you find kerosene in bulk please. I'm in Edmond and haven't found any.
I found this: Pendley sells bulk and probably some of the others as well.

Thanks. I know Fentress, I used to deliver there occasionally.

I kind of miss those days. When a kid I was a wannabe mountain man. I could go to my uncles farm/ranch and set up a camp. There was an artesian well for water and a pond full of fish. I'd stay out there for a week or longer living off the land during the summer using all the tricks learned from reading books about how the mountain men survived.
Enjoy your primitive camps. I'm jealous.

Good thread here with good ideas.
I think it depends on how long you expect to be without public utilities. During the ice storm in Tulsa, was it in 2008? We were without power for six days. Ran the gas fireplace which made enough heat to keep the house around 60 and pipes from freezing. My little generator provided power for most small appliances and lights.

They water rationed us as there was not enough power to run the pumps to refill the water towers until they brought in the industrial generators. I had 20-30 gallons of gas stored for the generator (gas stations had no power) with stabilizer, and a way to purify water if things did not improve. We used all my gear from backpacking years to cook, and generally make things more comfortable.

A thread about bulk kerosene shows up every year or so. Are you looking for a place to buy at a pump and fill your own containers or bulk such as truck coming to fill a bulk tank on-site?
LOVE the new avatar.. Tractor supply has 5 gallon cans of Crown kerosene on sale for 29.99 regular $34.99. Ace wants 39.99 for the same stuff.
