My neighbor has a really nice southbend lathe crammed into his garage. He was a precision bearing engineer who machined stuff as a hobby for his entire life. I may hit him up.

In the mean time, I realized I was overthinking things. It plugs the same way as a pump gun. Just throw a stick in there. So I chopped a chopstick down to the right length and dropped it in. Seems to work just fine.
Game wardens carry a flexible gauge they insert into the magazine to check for plugs.

Actually, I saw the gauge on Lone Star Law.
That figures. I’ve never seen the show, but I hear it’s over dramatized. One of the wardens down here is somewhat of a regular on the show from what I understand, and I know of two instances that his camera crew has been escorted off private property by the sheriffs department.

Seriously?!? Why the heck don’t they just insert a couple shells to check? Kind of seems like going the long way around to get the same results. :anyone:
I’ve always heard that they just tell you to throw them a few shells. I’ve never been checked. The only time I’ve ever been checked was the local game warden while driving around sandy sanders, and while on the shooting range at okmulgee I got a visit from the game warden supervisor.

alright, i got it apart, but dont have a plug. Called Gene Sears, the guy who knows anything wont be inuntil the morning.

I have zero plugsand need to limit my magazine capacity down to two so its legal for dove.

ill post a pic here in a minute, i dont think a pencil will work.

I think theyre pretty similar, at least until you get to the one or two fancy 391 models.
u can use a dowel. lay it outside of the mag tube + shells to see how long to make the plug. a factory plug is pretty much just a dowel. just pry or screw off the cap on the end of the mag tube. when cap is about to come off hold on to it as the spring in the mag tube will shoot the cap off once the cap clears its threads. the dowel should fit inside the mag spring that is not be so big in diameter that it compresses the spring.

on game warden checking i have been checked a bunch during dove season. last time warden had his own 12 and 20 shells. asked for my gun, and proceeded to load three and then tried a forth. it would not fit so he unloaded stuck his shells back in his pocket and handed the gun to me. i did see a warden carrying a guys gun back to his truck one time with the guy walking behind warden with his down. i asked what happened and he said at the last minute before leaving the house that morning he changed guns and did not think about the plug. cost him some money. have seen wardens act as fellow hunters so they would blend in and maybe catch someone doing wrong.
