Trek runs the gamut in options, everything from heavy overpriced junk, to some really nice bikes. I had a few over the years. I had a fleet grazed road bike built when trek was still working out of a garage it was like the bathtub porshe of bikes.

Anyway technology on bikes can move pretty quick. Your rear retailer should be the same series as the front (ex: shimano Diore ####) I highly suggest contacting Recycled Cycles in Seattle. They are like a pick-a-part for bikes and I have used them to fix long discontinued stuff. One of the best bike shops ever and they ship.

If you're just wanting to ride for fun and aren't a serious enthusiast with aspirations of being competitive you don't need an electronic drive train. Granted most of my bikes are older and wear 105, Ultegra and XTR drive trains of varying vintages ... They are still perfectly functional and will last forever if properly taken care of. I will even go so far as to say get yourself a good aluminum or steel framed bike and it will outlast you and your children Carbon bikes actually have a life span true story. The current bikes aren't as fragile or short lived as the first gen frames but none the less carbon frames do wear over time.

Bike is missing brake parts, everything. Derailleur is gone as is selector and cable. Handlebar bites. Tires are dry rotted.
Might be better to start with a different bike, at a shop you will spend way too much for all of that on a bike that isn't worth it. Even buying the parts and installing it is going to add up.

I do all of my own service and repair, if you were local and I could help, I would still give the same advice.

Didn't these existed. Very cool.
My current road bike is all electric/wireless shifting, it is really cool. Very customizable too, long hold on the shift button gets me two or three gear changes up on down. Shift from one ring to the other on the front and it will try to put you in a range that is close to what you came from. Battery life that everyone is fearful of has not been an issue. Bike will tell me when the batteries are low.

If you were doing say 80 mile per day rides, how many days do you think the battery would last? For example, could you do one of the week long tours with plenty of margin?
