I once had a conversation with a very liberal co-worker. (this in itself is strange, given our positions)
It was around 4AM, and we were eating "lunch", graveyard shift, glass plant. Hot, hard, dirty, dangerous work.
He was explaining to me why I was stingy for not wanting to give aid to others by way of the state stealing my earnings.
I asked him why all those deserving saints weren't up in the middle of the night, sweating their butts off with us, and told him, "yes, I want to keep every dime I earn".
How in the name of Crowley can a working man be adamant about sharing his earnings is beyond me. I will gladly give to church, GOA, Planned Parenthood...whoever I deem worthy of my earnings. But they are MY earnings, not some communist-inspired thief willing to re-distribute them as they see fit. You think higher taxes are just? Give more when you complete your returns. My body, my choice.
