So I’m shopping around for a flat bottom boat. Considering 12-16fy, slapping a small<10hp outboard or long tail on it and a trolling motor. My dream is to have something I could go do some fishing in, set some jugs, or use to get to remote areas via the river. Often all three the same day. Just an all around hunting/fishing/adventure boat.
when looking at these boats I’m finding that most have a capacity of 400-500lbs. This just doesn’t seem like a lot. If I have 150lbs worth of motor, fuel, safety equipment, and batteries, how am I supposed to fit anything else? I weigh 230, the dog weighs 90, fishing gear is about 30, cooler and ice is another 50. That’s over 500lbs and I haven’t even added a fishing buddy. What’s the deal? Do I just need a bigger boat? It’s my understanding that abiding by weight limits and horsepower ratings are not only essential for safety, but it’s also the law.
