I was out fishing Tbird the other day by myself in my 1975 15 foot closed bow Bayliner.
I had my Garmin GPS in the boat and decided to do a test.
Against the wind full throttle on the 1975 50 HP mercury 2 stroke was 25 MPH and with the wind was 25 MPH.
Slight chop but no white caps.
That was with a 15 pitch prop and the boat took a little bit to get on plane. About 10 seconds.
Like it was lugging down.
With 2 extra passengers in the boat it takes a good 150 yards to get on plane.
I pulled up on the shore and stuck on my spare prop which is 11 pitch.
Right back out on the lake and against the wind it was 25 MPH and with the wind it was 27 MPH.
Jumped right out of the hole and on plane in about 4 seconds.
With passengers that 11 pitch gets on plane really quick.
Will be running that and keeping the 15 as the spare prop.
Yea I carry spare props on my boats. And tools and silicone and electric tape.
