Yeah, mathematically my car in 5th at 6k should do ~204mph on 29" tires but I just dont see that happening.

Several people tested the 186 and got the same result but they were on stock 28" tires. I guess by the math, that puts them near 5670rpm and in theory bumping that to 29" should net 192 on paper and 30" 199 at the same RPM (yes, on paper). So it seems 30" tires that are narrower (which is better for traction on salt and has less rolling resistance) plus a few RPM might just met me that magic 200mph.

It's fun to think about. In a station wagon.

@adamsredlines I wonder if those cars you have unlock the converter under full throttle
You would then see higher RPM than what the math indicates.
I have a junky local built converter and it is 20% to 25% slippage on the big end in my 57 chevy.
It is slipping 400-450 RPM at flat cruise at any speed 30 MPH or 75 MPH.

When I had my Buell X1W I met the guys in Team Elves, who were running Buells on the salt at 200+mph. Their performance mods really made my bike run good, dyno 105hp in a 420lb bike.
Bonneville has been flooded last two times I drove I-80

Hajek motorsports in Ames has run a. E85 Mustang pretty fast.

What did that V45 Interceptor run?
I had one and a buddy had one. I had a basket case and a running 1984 V45 Magna.
My Magna had 1 more gear than his Interceptor.
Another friend had the V65 Sabre and it was faster than his buddies V65 Magna.
I later got a 1985 V65 Magna. Tweaked it a bit and went .5 seconds quicker in the 1/4
than in pure stock form.

Top speed for my V45 was 147 and head shake limited it.
Found out that was caused by out of balance rear tire Yes REAR tire.
V65 had nothing left after 167 MPH

Those bikes are so sweet :)

@swampratt - he was only getting 105+. Hhhmmmmm ... something's wrong. It ran much better than that at home. (Uhhhummm) Thought it was a jetting issue, so kept swapping jets and trying again. Gave up and settled for the 105. Got it home, and it wouldn't start. WTF?!?!?!?! Negative battery cable looked like you had been welding with it! Wasn't getting good fire!

Yes the one on the dyno would cruise easy at 150 street and ran 15 miles at 6500 rpm on highway with
3.25 gears and 28.9" tall tire 1:1 final drive and it would go 500 rpm more but just following an all black vette and that was as fast as he was going and I was not in a bigger hurry than he was.

Lets play math.
336 is a given.
336 X MPH X gear ratio divided by tire diameter = RPM
Now allow some for converter slippage if you do not have a lock up converter.

336 X 160 X 306 divided by 28.5 = 5772 RPM
Now your car should have .83 overdrive so 5772 X .83 = 4,790 RPM

Yea aero and even wheel drag or out of balance driveshaft will kill top end on a vehicle.

Had a 78Nova that would run 7600+ rpm but dead head at 6000 in high.
It was the puny 2 something inch driveshaft reaching or passing critical RPM.

I had a shaft built and fixed that now 7600 rpm in high.
370 gear 31" tall tire and I was moving at 7600 rpm.

8 psi in those rear Hoosiers and quite scary when I completely backed off the throttle at that speed.
Took me less than a 1/2 second to stab that throttle back to the floor and eliminate the bouncy ball
effect.
That was the first time I went that fast but not the last it took that Nova 3/4 of a mile to get there.

I admire high speed and Respect for high speed needs to be a given.
High pucker factor.

My Nova was very aerodynamic and low and had a belly pan to the center crossmember to keep air out from under the hood.
It was very light also compared to new cars 2,780 without me in it.
Still had a trailer hitch and it got a lot of use.
Where did you get that drive shaft built? Shop in San Antonio built mine. They spin it up to the equivalent of 300 mph on the balance.
