FYI, Jack Carr's next James Reece novel, Only the Dead, is now available for preorder at Amazon (hardback, Kindle, and Audible). It's scheduled for release on May 16, 2023.

Next on my reading list is Operation Pineapple Express by Lt. Col. Scott Mann. Mann is a retired Special Forces officer who got a desperate call from an Afghan Commando running from the Taliban during Biden's Bungle. He started making calls, finally connecting with a former Special Forces soldier in the State Dep't at HKIA. He told Mann to have his guy say the word "pineapple" to identify him to the guards, and they'd get him inside. And that's how Operation Pineapple Express got started, getting Afghan Commandos and their families out from under absolutely certain Taliban death sentences.

If you like mystery, action, and suspense there is a local author I highly recommend. Keith Remer has several good books. I'd start with "In the Midst of Wolves". It is set in the Shawnee area and is a page turner. You'll not want to put it down. Also, "Run River Run" and "The Hiding Place of Thunder" are very good. He also has a western trilogy that is good as well.

This is the thread I've been looking for.

I am pretty eclectic with non fiction but tend to lean toward war, religion, psychology, agriculture, earth science and horticulture/botany. Non fiction tends to be classic sci-fi with a soft spot for occasional degenerate pulp.

Favorite author: Ernst Junger, his life was amazing and he remains a visionary even after death. Storm of Steel is what we should have read in school instead of All Quiet On The Western Front.

Currently reading: How to Stage A Military Coup by David Hebditch and Ken Connor. About a quarter of the way through and it is pretty informative and interesting. Would recomend.

And this is In queue. one of the 20th century conflicts I’ve neglected
Most people have neglected it. I suggest reading Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, his time fighting along side the Socialist shows where the seeds of Animal Farm and 1984 were.planted. I also suggest Mine Were of Trouble by Peter Kemp, it is a rare English account of fighting on the Nationalist side.

I borrowed Pineapple Express on Libby but didn’t finish it. Had a good flow but just didn’t keep my attention. I bounce back and forth between fiction and non fiction a lot so I’ll revisit it when I go on another non fiction kick.

Definitely ready for more James Reece though!

It may not be for you, but I just finished it, and I'd recommend giving it another go. It jumps all over the place once it gets going, following many different Afghans (and Afghan-Americans) helped by Operation Pineapple Express as they shepherded them through a veritable Underground Railroad into HKIA and on to freedom.

It also underlines what an absolute Charlie Foxtrot Biden's Bungle was, and if you had any doubts about what a useless political ***** Milley is, this book will erase them. It's ironic that the CIA kept its promises to its "thuggish" Afghan mercs, but the US Military couldn't be bothered to help its allies, despite the fact that abandoning them constituted a very real national security threat--many of them would be hotly sought by Russian and Chinese military intelligence because they knew not only the TTPs of US SOF, but also the real names and phone numbers of many of the US SOF operators. How in the hell they could leave rescuing those people to a bunch of retired veterans is just mind-boggling as hell...
